Varsity Letter Requirements

Green Wave Esports is dedicated to recognizing the exceptional achievements of our student-athletes in competition, teamwork, and academics. Varsity letters are awarded to team members who consistently demonstrate excellence in these areas.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for a varsity letter in esports, a student must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Playoff Qualification: Qualify for the Champion bracket in either the High School Esports League (HSEL) or the Youth World Cup (YWC) playoffs. This demonstrates a high level of skill and competitive success.
  2. Consistent Participation: Participate in at least 50% of official matches throughout the season. This ensures active involvement and commitment to the team.
  3. Academic Eligibility: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Academic success is a priority for all of our students.
  4. Positive Team Contribution: Maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and actively support teammates. Esports is a team sport, and positive contributions are essential to success.

Alternative Paths to a Varsity Letter:

If a student does not meet all of the above criteria, they may also earn a varsity letter through the following:

  1. Coach Recommendation: Receive a recommendation from the esports team coach based on exceptional contributions to the team, such as leadership, mentorship, or strategic analysis.
  2. Years of Service: Complete at least 3 years of service as a member of the Green Wave Esports club/team, demonstrating long-term commitment and dedication to the program.

Important Notes:

  • All varsity letter requirements must be met within a single academic year.
  • Students who do not meet all of the primary criteria may still be awarded a varsity letter if they fulfill one of the alternative paths.
  • Varsity letter awards will be presented at the end-of-year Green Wave Esports event.
