Summerville Smashdown a Smashing Success!

This past weekend, Green Wave Esports hosted the Summerville Smashdown, and it was a blast! We had 20 competitors of all ages and skill levels come out and compete in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Our youngest competitor was 6-year-old Kayden, who took games off some of the best high school players in the region! It was awesome to see so many young players getting involved in the competitive scene.

The top 4 players took home a share of $200 in gift cards from our generous sponsor, Palmetto Gaming. A big congrats to Efilife54 who took home the championship with an amazing performance on Min Min against Max’s Ice Climbers! Check out the full top 8 results below:

But the Summerville Smashdown was more than just a tournament. We had a ton of fun with Palmetto Gaming’s retro gaming consoles, and the Gamezone843 gaming truck was a huge hit with everyone. We even had some special guests from Charleston Southern University and Benedict College come out to show off their esports programs and chat with attendees.

A huge shout out to the Summerville Parks and Recreation Department for partnering with us and providing the space. Thank you also to Palmetto Gaming for sponsoring the event and donating prizes, and to Lake City Esports for helping to get the stream up and running.

We can’t wait to see you all at our next event!

Welcome Parents to SHS Esports 2024-2025

Dear Summerville High Parents,

Following a successful inaugural year of competitive gaming, the Green Wave Esports program is excited to build upon our accomplishments and foster an even larger and more dynamic community in the 2024-2025 season. Last year, our program grew to over 100 students involved in our gaming club, with teams qualifying for playoffs in seven different games. We are particularly proud of our Rocket League team winning the Fall Major Gold Bracket and Kevin B. for clinching the Brawlhalla National Championship in Kansas City this summer. These achievements reflect the dedication, teamwork, and skill of our students.

This year, Green Wave Esports will continue to uphold its mission: to provide a supportive community for all students, cultivating a passion for gaming, teamwork, and personal growth while striving for competitive success. We are committed to maintaining high standards both academically and professionally, emphasizing sportsmanship, respect for others, communication, dedication, integrity, and responsibility. Our coaching staff is dedicated to nurturing these qualities in our student-athletes, ensuring they grow as players and individuals.

To participate in Green Wave Esports, students must meet the following requirements:
• Be currently enrolled at SHS and on pace to graduate.
• Maintain at least a 70 in every class (checked at the end of each quarter).
o Grades will be checked regularly.
o Any grade below a 70 at interims will result in probation.
• Have no suspensions or major referrals.

We are confident that this season will be even more successful than the last, and we welcome your continued support in fostering a thriving esports community at Summerville High. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
