Welcome Parents to SHS Esports 2024-2025

Dear Summerville High Parents,

Following a successful inaugural year of competitive gaming, the Green Wave Esports program is excited to build upon our accomplishments and foster an even larger and more dynamic community in the 2024-2025 season. Last year, our program grew to over 100 students involved in our gaming club, with teams qualifying for playoffs in seven different games. We are particularly proud of our Rocket League team winning the Fall Major Gold Bracket and Kevin B. for clinching the Brawlhalla National Championship in Kansas City this summer. These achievements reflect the dedication, teamwork, and skill of our students.

This year, Green Wave Esports will continue to uphold its mission: to provide a supportive community for all students, cultivating a passion for gaming, teamwork, and personal growth while striving for competitive success. We are committed to maintaining high standards both academically and professionally, emphasizing sportsmanship, respect for others, communication, dedication, integrity, and responsibility. Our coaching staff is dedicated to nurturing these qualities in our student-athletes, ensuring they grow as players and individuals.

To participate in Green Wave Esports, students must meet the following requirements:
• Be currently enrolled at SHS and on pace to graduate.
• Maintain at least a 70 in every class (checked at the end of each quarter).
o Grades will be checked regularly.
o Any grade below a 70 at interims will result in probation.
• Have no suspensions or major referrals.

We are confident that this season will be even more successful than the last, and we welcome your continued support in fostering a thriving esports community at Summerville High. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Green Wave Esports!

Building a Legacy Vol. 4: Summerville High School

There’s a new kid on the block: Summerville High School. Hailing from Summerville, South Carolina, the Green Wave is proving that they have what it takes to be in the conversation of “best in the nation”. Fall 2023 saw Summerville have their most successful season by far in the High School Esports League since joining at the end of 2022.

How successful, you may ask? The Summerville Green Wave are 1 of only 4 schools that have a presence in all three Premier titles, earning their spot through either Fall season performance (they were1st place in the Fall East Region for Brawlhalla) or the spring open qualifiers for Rocket League and VALORANT. As many of us may know, just getting your program off the ground comes with its fair share of obstacles, so I reached out to head Coach David Griggs to get more background and insight on what has helped the Green Wave make such a massive splash in the High School Esports League.

SUMMERVILLE — It’s all fun and games in Dorchester District Two.

After school lets out, students are seated in a brand-new lab at Summerville High School. It’s boisterous, full of laughter as four students play Super Smash Bros. against each other. It’s a little more serious and quieter behind them, where a team of five is competing in a “Valorant” tournament against a team in New Jersey, with a student and alum offering commentary as the game is streamed.
